Little Chicago

This book I have read as actually become one of my favorites. It is called Little Chicago. Little Chicago was very interesting! It is about an 11 year old boy who is not the most fortunate boy in the world, he is just a small town guy. He wants to be more like his sister. His sister is not the best role model. She takes drugs, has illegal wapons, and Blacky (the boy) isn't doing to well. He is getting bad grades, starts to steal things from people, and misbehaves. This book is just the book to read because it can teach you how some things are bad and that it's really had to get under pure pressure. This is a great book for middle school age kids. So if you are looking for a book, Little Chicago is a great book to pick.

Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
First, let me say that Sarah Dessen is my favorite author. She is able to capture the essence of a teeanger! The emotions that her teen characters display are very realistic.
The main character of Dreamland is Caitlin. Her sister has recently up and left the family . Caitlin is left to deal with her parents alone. Which is hard when your mother needs something to keep her busy, ie. her daughters. Caitlin meets a young man that is able to block out the home life from her family. At first things go well. Caitlin is happy but then things turn ugly when her boyfriend hits her.

Prom by Laurie Anderson
I would not recommend this book. Laurie Anderson is usually a phenomenal writer. She was unable to capture emotion or feeling in this book.

i am the wallpaper by Mark Peter Hughes
I was suprised to see that a boy wrote this book. He captures the feelings and emotions of the female character in this book. Floey is the young child of two. Her old sister is, of course, perfect. Floey must deal with family, friends, and boys. She keeps a journal which gets stolen and published on the web. She begins to realize that she may be that star she always wanted to be.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Clay Jenson, a shy, well-behaved boy, receives a mysterious package with no return address in the mail. Inside he finds seven tapes listed with numbers one through thirteen. He pops the first tape into his walkman and discovers a shocking truth about himself as well as a few of his classmates. Clay's first love, Hannah Baker, records her last words before committing suicide for no apparent reason. What Clay doesn't know and will soon find out, is that after moving to a new school and dealing with the pain of bullying and exclusion, Hannah Baker has thirteen people to blame for her death and Clay is one of them. Hannah's unknown past mysteriously connects those thirteen people, forcing Clay to face the decisions he now regrets and to view life in a whole new way. I really enjoyed reading this book because it shows the values of life, friendship, and trust. You need to speak up before it's too late. I thought it was interesting how each person had their own individual story that revolved around one decision. It was suspenseful waiting for Clay's story to pop up, but everything fell into place. Recommended for teens ages 13-18.

September Sisters by Jillian Cantor

Just like normal siblings Abigail and Becky Reed are constantly fighting. They were born two years and one day apart and their mother always called them the September sisters. The night of Becky’s disappearance is like any other, where the girls swim and fight. When Abigail wakes up to find that Becky is missing she is convinced it’s only to make her life miserable and that Becky will soon return home. As the police search for her younger sister Abigail sees her parent’s marriage fall apart, she experiences first love, and finally decides that it is up to her to find Becky. While Abigail searches, her parents grow more and more apart and the police were pretty much giving up. With this mysterious novel you will most definitely need tissues. I instantly loved this novel and I wish there were a sequel.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Melinda Sordino is an outcast. She has no friends and is never listened to. One thing she actually has, though, is a secret. A horrible, terrifying secret. No one knows what it is or how it happened; because of it, she stays silent. No one gets her except Mr. Freeman, who knows how creative she can be. When IT taunts her, she realizes she can only do one thing to fix everything: speak. In my opinion, this book shows you how cruel it really is in high school.

This book deals with school, drama, and fashion (of course). When you first read this book, you’ll think it were a long-lost novel of Gossip Girl, or The Clique. So B. It by Sarah Weeks

Twelve year old Heidi’s mom is mentally disabled. Their neighbor, Bernadette, helps take care of the both of them. Heidi’s mom can only say twenty-four words, one of them being “soof.” She can’t stop saying “soof,” and no one can tell Heidi what it means. So, she goes on a bus trip to figure out her past and what “soof” is. I read this book back in fifth grade. It was so touching that I actually cried in the end. This book is great for all ages.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This is a book about a boy named Clay Jensen. One day a mysterious box makes its way to his front door. The box is full of audiotapes made by a friend Hannah Baker who comitted suicide a couple weeks before. In the audiotapes Hannah explaines why she did it and who she felt drove her to it.

This book allows a new view on life. It shows the impact a little hurtful act can have on someone else's life. It makes you think before you do something that you know will hurt someone else. I believe it could help someone who has thought about suicide or someone is close to someone they think is suicidal. If someone you know is depressed and thinking about suicide you should think about reading this book. Don't let them slip away forever.
